Borrow The Catwalk Launching November 17th

""Borrow the Catwalk is an eco-friendly online couture dress rental service based in Los Angeles, California. The company will launch its site nationally November 17th to feature the fashions of established and emerging designers. Apparel and accessories will be rented out at a fraction of the retail price, making haute couture affordable for all women. Borrow The Catwalk ]was developed to give women access to designer labels while raising awareness of the ethical issues surrounding fashion. The site is designed to cater to the needs of fashionistas both on a budget or with a desire to change styles often, with a sensitivity to eco-fashion culture.

Founder Sylva Krikorian is a zealous advocate for the furthering of education, preservation, and celebration of haute couture. “The concept of reusing a dress is inherently eco-friendly, and, of course, implementing environmentally sound practices is a priority to us." Borrow The Catwalk uses eco-friendly drycleaning and recycled paper among their efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle the latest and greatest fashions. In addition to these efforts Borrow The Catwalk plans to donate or sell the dresses as new product is brought in, the proceeds of which will also be donated to charitable organizations. Members of Borrow The Catwalk will be able to vote for their charity of choice each season.

“It is imperative that we protect human rights and intellectual property as they relate to the fashion industry and that starts with education and advocacy,” Krikorian stated, “It’s an exciting time for fashion and we want to share our ideas, our fashions, and our values.” This service proves that fashion and sustainability are not mutually exclusive, Borrow The Catwalk is a culmination of high style and ethical fashion designed to serve, advise, and encourage women in their individual choices and unique fashion needs.

Bits & Baubles

Watch out for these conversation timepieces from the hot emerging French line, Contrejour Paris.  We love the contemporary architectural designs and playful details.  Contre-jour is French for “against the light”, referring to photograph’s taken with the camera pointing toward the light which creates a  silhouette of the subject.  Very mysterious!  These innovative pieces are luxurious and impeccably crafted, not to mention affordable for the fashionista on a budget!  We are definitely sold!

Lose the Baggage & Other Packing Tips from Jetsetting Fashionistas…

Rent your next party dress from Borrow The CatwalkSummertime is upon us and that means one thing: Vacation!  We love to travel, but unfortunately some of us are chronic over-packers.  So, we decided to ask our merry band of missionistas for their best summer packing tips to get you geared up for a haute holiday!  Here’s a rundown of what they came up with…

  • If you’re going for less than two weeks then adhere to the 3 Bag Rule: one great carry-on bag, one oversized purse, and one small clutch for evening.
  • Choose fabrics that scrunch up without wrinkling, particularly knits and stretch cottons or denims, which are comfy to boot.  Never pack linen, it will wrinkle every time, without fail. Rather than folding, try rolling your clothes, using tissue paper when rolling helps keep clothes from wrinkling as well.  Also, anything that’s cute and can be rinsed out in a hotel bathroom sink without looking any worse for wear is definitely worth making room for.
  • Choose a color theme that works well for your destination and itinerary.  Stick with that theme so you can mix and match garments easily.
  • Pack the basics and play them up with scarves, chunky necklaces, a fedora, or even some red lipstick.  Don’t forget your sunglasses!
  • Wedges are the perfect choice for looking chic and gamine while navigating through cobblestone streets.  A pair of shoes for the beach/pool is also appropriate, and of course a pair of flats for sightseeing are a must.  A true fashionista can get through her holiday with just three great pairs of shoes, so choose thoughtfully!
  • Fashion meets function! Ankle socks are super trendy right now and they keep your feet warm on the plane!
  • Try something floral, you’ll feel as feminine as you look in your new locale.  Dresses work well for an easy transition from day to night.  A pretty camisole is a staple transition piece as well. If you’re not sure what’s trendy where you going, check out local fashion magazines and websites from the region you’re visiting to get inspired.  Check the weather forecast while you’re at it!
  • Edit, edit, edit.  Worst case scenario: You forget something and have to go shopping.  Don’t pretend you weren’t going to go shopping anyway!
